minor tweaks & improvements
This is the second-most important update to COSIGN — number one is the next one. But more on that when it's actually live.
The key to understanding this update is understanding back catalog.
So what does back catalog mean in the context of COSIGN? The same way a record that was paid dust on initial release can blow up years later from a TikTok, now the same thing can happen when a user posts in COSIGN.
Imagine a user posts a Cosima (great artist btw) song in app right now and gets 0 likes. Before this update, regardless of Cosima's career trajectory, that user's post would disappear into the ether after a week or two. That doesn't match the vision of rewarding early listeners.
Post update, if Cosima becomes the hottest artist in the world, the user who posted her months or maybe even years ago will have their post boosted in a way that reflects Cosima's rise, earning Gold, Platinum and Diamond plaques from a post that originally went unnoticed.
That's just the algorithmic side of things. The actual layout and presentation of songs is 20x more engaging, opening the door to exponentially increased song discovery possibilities.
The key goal here is to get everyone to share and find more music while feeling truly rewarded throughout the process.
Over 125,000 songs are uploaded to streaming services daily. Instagram story posts and broken links to a song on Twitter aren't enough to get even 10% of those songs heard. And that's enough motivation to make this process feel as rewarding as possible.
This update is a major step towards that, but it's also just step 1. This isn't the "rocket ship," "to the moon update," but it's definitely a key piece to the foundation that the rocket ship will soon take off from.
